Modifications in recorder standardization are required to correct inherent scalar differences among potential differences measured in a given electrocardiographic reference frame. In the frontal plane, agreement between the resultant vectors calculated from unipolar limb lead measurements and from standard lead measurements can be obtained by standardizing the galvanometer for recording the uni...

An Introduction to Conway ’ S Games

Combinatorial Game Theory is a fascinating and rich theory, based on a simple and intuitive recursive definition of games, which yields a very rich algebraic structure: games can be added and subtracted in a very natural way, forming an abelian GROUP (§ 2). There is a distinguished subGROUP of games called numbers which can also be multiplied and which form a FIELD (§ 3): this field contains bo...

Bayley and Conway ’ s Paper on Turbomachinery Internal Air Systems

Bayley and Conway’s 1964 paper [1], motivated by shortcomings in industrial design methods and understanding, was one of the first investigations of flow and heat transfer in turbomachinery rotating disc cavities. At the time of the study, a theoretical or numerical treatment was considered intractable and so experiments were undertaken. These paved the way for a large body of further research ...

Conway ’ s RATS Sequences in Base 3 Johann

We study the behavior of Conway’s RATS (reverse-add-then-sort) sequences in base 3. An independent proof is given of Gentges’ result that all RATS sequences in base 3 are ultimately periodic. We also prove Erdős-Kac and Hardy-Ramanujan type results for the periods of such sequences.

Burgess Shale Faunas and the Cambrian Explosion S . CONWAY MoRRIs

Soft-bodied marine faunas from the Lower and Middle Cambrian, exemplified by the Burgess Shale of British Columbia, are a key component in understanding the major adaptive radiations at the beginning of the Phanerozoic ("Cambrian explosion"). These faunas have a widespread distribution, and many taxa have pronounced longevity. Among the components appear to be survivors of the preceding Ediacar...
